China-based BOE is a large display maker. In March 2024, BOE established a new company called Hefei BOE Solar Energy Tech and started its research on solar cells with perovskite materials.
Hefei BOE Solar Energy is located in BOE's B9 factory and plans to have an R&D lab with total investment around CNY 91 M. This project gained green light from local government in May 2024 and is working to build a 300mm x 300mm R&D line which is able to produce 22500 sheets annually. 2 months later, in July 2024, a 2nd construction was announced as an expansion plan with total cost around CNY 871 M. According to the official announcement, a pilot line will be built in the expansion plan with designed capacity around 912500 sheets of solar cell annually.
Although the Company is planning significant solar cell capacity, BOE claimed those solar cells are merely for R&D and exhibition use without any external sales.
